We acted as Developer, Investor and Operator.

The waste wood Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Project in Amel (Province of Liège, Belgium) with a 2-times 5.5 MWe electrical output and a 2-times 6 MWth thermal output and representing a total investment of some 25 million EURO, was launched in the year 2005 by RENOGEN (which became in 2008 a subsidiary of the Brussels’ stock-listed 4ENERGYINVEST GROUP (“4EI”)) and whereby RENOGEN has been acting as developer, investor and operator.

The first phase of the Amel CHP Plant with a 5.5 MWe electrical output and a 6 MWth thermal output became operational in November 2007 whilst the 2nd phase, very similar to the first phase, became operational before the end of the year 2008.

One of the characteristics of the waste wood biomass that was used in this RENOGEN Project was the relative humidity of the non-contaminated waste wood biomass and that could reach up to 55 or 60 % and corresponding to real non-contaminated waste wood recovered from different sources without any pre-treatment and/or preliminary drying process.

Each phase of the Amel CHP Plant will consume some 60,000 tons of non-contaminated waste wood, which means that the total Amel CHP Plant will burn approximately 120,000 tons/year of non-contaminated waste wood. The waste wood Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Project would supply electricity to the local power grid whilst the generated heat was going to be used for the current and future wood activities available at the local industrial estate (sawmill and pellets) where the Amel CHP Plant was located.
